System Overview

PoultrySense (developed under MSD Animal Health Intelligence) is a multi-node wireless IoT environmental and microclimate sensing network engineered specifically for high-density broiler grow-out barns, layer facilities, and pullet houses. Unlike traditional single-point barn thermostats that only measure climate at the controller console, PoultrySense deploys a spatial grid of wireless sensor pods suspended directly at bird height.

Key Management Benefits & FCR Impact

  • Elimination of Barn Microclimate Dead Zones: Standard 150m broiler barns experience temperature variations of 3–5°C between cooling pads and exhaust fans. PoultrySense maps spatial heat distribution to trigger variable speed fans before heat stress reduces bird weight gain.
  • Regulatory Ammonia Compliance: Continuous NH3 measurement ensures compliance with EU Broiler Directive limits (<20 ppm) and US OSHA guidelines, protecting bird lung integrity and paw condition.
  • Early Disease Detection via Water Intake: Water-to-feed ratios typically drop 24–36 hours prior to clinical symptoms of Coccidiosis or Enteritis. PoultrySense logs flow meter telemetry to alert growers of impending health challenges.
